Search the Elizabeth Court Docket

Start any Elizabeth court docket search by reading the court name on your notice, ticket, or filing. Elizabeth serves as the county seat, and several offices keep records here in town. One Elizabeth court docket lead might point to a town contact, another to Magistrate Court, Circuit Court, or Family Court. A separate federal system exists too. No single portal covers them all. Find the court that issued your paper, run its official docket lookup, read the newest entry, and then confirm any court date or document request with the clerk of that court.

Searching the Elizabeth Court Docket

Read the court name first. The town publishes no standalone municipal docket portal, so take that as a gap, not as proof that no municipal court exists. Use the Town of Elizabeth's official channel to confirm who holds the record and follow the citation's instructions. State magistrate cases run through Magistrate Case Search. Public circuit matters use WVPASS. Search by full case number when you have it. MCR also takes a first or last name but caps results at 30. Match Elizabeth-area cases by the listed county, filing date, case type, parties, and status. An Elizabeth street address alone proves nothing. State, county, and federal courts can all hear matters tied to the same town.

  1. Find the issuing court on the citation, notice, caption, or filed order.
  2. Ask the Town of Elizabeth about a municipal matter when no official local portal is named.
  3. Use MCR for a Wirt magistrate case or WVPASS for a public circuit case.
  4. Check the case ID, court location, event schedule, docket entries, and disposition.
  5. Confirm the latest setting or request the exact document from the matching clerk.

Elizabeth Court Docket at County Seat

Elizabeth doubles as Wirt County's courthouse town and government center. The county's comprehensive plan calls it the only incorporated community in Wirt County. Census TIGERweb counted 724 Elizabeth residents. That figure comes from the 2020 Census. Small size, though, does not collapse the Elizabeth court structure into a single docket.

Nearby rural place names can help you picture Elizabeth-area geography, but a docket belongs to a court, not a spot on the map. Because Elizabeth is the county seat, Circuit, Magistrate, Family, County Clerk, and town offices can all sit within a few blocks. What kind of record you need, not the street address, tells you where to search.

Elizabeth Municipal Court Basics

No town or county page names a separate online Elizabeth municipal docket. No calendar, payment page, judge, or clerk contact appears. Treat that as a gap, not proof the town lacks a municipal court. If your Elizabeth citation or ordinance matter names a municipal forum, keep the citation. Contact the town through its official page to confirm the office, response method, due date, and hearing place. Do not send an unconfirmed town matter to MCR. The Wirt Magistrate Clerk also works in Elizabeth. Magistrate Court belongs to the state system. An Elizabeth municipal docket, if one handles your citation, would have its own local keeper. The court name printed on the ticket is your best first clue.

Elizabeth Court Records and Courthouse History

Wirt County's courthouse in Elizabeth has served since 1910, according to the county plan. The town's story runs older still. William Beauchamp laid out Elizabeth in 1796. Today the Beauchamp-Newman Museum stands on Court Street near the Elizabeth courthouse, a handy landmark for local visitors. Old proximity, though, never merges offices or their files. The official Elizabeth town page offers that town and courthouse-area context.

Elizabeth docket access today pairs local offices with statewide systems. CourtPLUS reached Wirt in 2022. MCR launched in 2024, and WVPASS followed in 2025. Even with a public entry online, the Elizabeth-area clerk still keeps the official file.

Court Dates and Settings in Elizabeth

Check any date on an Elizabeth notice against the newest docket entry. Or check it against a filed order. For magistrate matters, MCR can show an Appearance Date and Case Event Schedule. Those fields mark what is scheduled, not what happened. A motion seeking a continuance does not move the date unless the court grants it. A town matter is different. Use the court named on the citation and confirm through the town's published contact.

DateThe scheduled day shown on the current notice, order, or case event.
TimeThe listed start time, which should be confirmed if a later entry appears.
PlaceThe court and hearing location, not merely an Elizabeth mailing address.
JudgeThe assigned judicial officer shown in the current court record.
Setting TypeThe kind of event, such as appearance, motion hearing, pretrial, or trial.

Wirt Circuit Court terms begin on the last Monday of March, June, and September. A term date, though, is not a hearing date. Your one Elizabeth case gets its own date. In bad weather or an emergency, check the Judiciary's court-closure search. Still follow the court's latest notice.

Call the Right Elizabeth Court Clerk

Three Elizabeth offices, three record families. Circuit Clerk Carol Frame keeps circuit and family court records. Her office lists 304-275-6597 and carold.frame@courtswv.gov. Weekday hours at her office run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Magistrate Clerk Tracy Ann Nelson holds the magistrate files. Civil, criminal, and traffic files sit with her at 304-275-3642, 90 Market Street. County Clerk Marolyn Baldrige keeps the rest. That means deeds, liens, probate, vital records, wills, and county commission records.

Published Judiciary and local pages disagree on the circuit office address, listing 19 Court Street and 19 Washington Street, with the local page adding Suite 200. Confirm the destination before you mail an Elizabeth court record request. In that request, state the full case number, entry date, document, format, and whether you need certification.

Traffic Tickets in Elizabeth

Start by finding out which court issued your Elizabeth traffic ticket. A state citation from the Elizabeth area is heard in Wirt Magistrate Court. You can run an Elizabeth docket search through MCR. The Magistrate Clerk holds the underlying papers. For payment, the separate Magistrate Payment System takes a Citation ID, Case ID, or Payment Plan ID. Enter it in that format. Remember the tool's limits. It will not search by party name. It will not display the full history of an Elizabeth case.

Elizabeth itself posts no municipal traffic portal, and Wirt County publishes no fine schedule. Follow the response instructions printed on the citation. Confirm any amount or court date with the issuing court. Be careful before you pay. Under West Virginia law, payment can count as a guilty plea. An Elizabeth payment screen is not a safe way to browse a docket.

Elizabeth Docket Starts with Issuer

One Elizabeth street or incident can touch several record systems. So the real question is who opened the case. A town ordinance matter stays with the municipal office. A Wirt County magistrate case runs through MCR and the Magistrate Clerk. A circuit case runs through WVPASS and the Circuit Clerk. Federal matters belong to PACER and the federal clerk.

This routing spares you a false no-result. It also keeps the County Clerk's records distinct. A deed, lien, probate paper, or county commission item is not an Elizabeth court docket, even when it relates to a dispute.

Where Elizabeth Cases Go

An Elizabeth municipal matter and a state magistrate matter start in different places. Magistrate court covers misdemeanors, felony preliminary examinations, and civil claims within its statutory limit. Wirt County Circuit Court takes felony trials. It also takes larger civil and equity cases, and appeals assigned by law. Family Court matters go to the Fifth Family Court Circuit, which follows special access rules.

Filing an appeal creates a new docket; the lower court record still stands. The statewide Intermediate Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Appeals each keep their own appellate dockets. The Wirt County court docket overview traces this county-level routing in more depth.

Elizabeth Federal Docket Is Separate

A federal case involving an Elizabeth person, parcel, or event never surfaces in the town or Wirt County state portals. Wirt sits in the Southern District of West Virginia's Charleston Division. PACER is the search tool for federal dockets. Bankruptcy goes through the federal bankruptcy court and its own systems. The district's official county and division page confirms Wirt's placement in the Charleston Division.

The map fixes jurisdiction, not where your hearing will be held. Under the court's local rule, Wirt and Wood moved from the Parkersburg point of holding court to Charleston. That shift came after the 2013 closure. Sessions may still happen in Parkersburg when needed. Check your case notice before you travel. The official federal court locations page lists the Charleston clerk's office and courthouse.

This federal route only helps once you know the case is federal. An Elizabeth municipal or Wirt magistrate citation has no business in PACER.

Elizabeth Court Record Access Rules

West Virginia Code ยง 51-4-2 sets the baseline. Court records and papers are open to inspection unless a specific exception applies. Trial Court Rules 10.03, 10.04, and 15A govern access limits, requests to custodians, and electronic dockets. Town administrative records may raise the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act too. The right authority depends on the record and who holds it.

Access boundary:

Sealed, expunged, and juvenile records are not ordinary public search material. Family orders and indices may be public while pleadings, exhibits, recordings, and transcripts remain confidential.

Ask the Elizabeth-area custodian whether a public index, order, or redacted copy is available. Do not seek protected content through another portal.

Open access does not erase redaction rules. Social Security numbers, birth dates, minors' names, account numbers, protected private addresses, and medical details should never be republished. A missing result may point to access limits, the wrong court, an older record, or a mistyped identifier.

Read Elizabeth Docket Fields Safely

Treat an Elizabeth docket line as a signpost, not the whole road. MCR can display a charge, claim amount, bond, judgment, Appearance Date, schedule, or disposition for an Elizabeth-area case. Each field means only what it says. A charge is not a conviction. A claim amount is not a judgment. A judgment does not prove payment, and an Elizabeth Appearance Date is just a scheduled field, not a record that anyone appeared.

Docket entry
A dated summary of a filing, hearing, notice, order, or court action.
Disposition
The exact outcome recorded by the court, which should not be casually reworded.
Continuance
A moved event after court approval; a request alone does not change a date.
Security level
The system’s access category, ranging from public through restricted, sealed, or expunged treatment.

Elizabeth docket entries shift as new orders are filed, so save the official URL and retrieval date with your research note. When exact terms matter, ask the Elizabeth-area clerk for the filed order or a certified record. A screen capture is not a substitute.
